Description
The State Association of Texas Pioneers was founded in 1919 after the end of World War I, in celebration of the American victory and the return of the men who fought in this war. Leading citizens of San Antonio and Texas also wanted to celebrate the spirit of the Pioneers who settled Texas. They wanted to keep alive Texas history, perpetuate Texas traditions and cultivate friendly relations between the Pioneers of Texas, their descendants and the military. The State Association of Texas Pioneers was incorporated as a not-for-profit organization in 1921. During the early days of the Association, many first generation descendants of the early Pioneer families in ranching, business, education and government became members to celebrate through social activities in San Antonio and surrounding area. This early membership grew to over 1000 people.
Today, individuals who are descendants of ancestors who were in Texas at least 100 years ago, individuals who are interested in preserving the History of Texas, and business, civic and educational groups meeting the same criteria are all members of the State Association of Texas Pioneers. Anyone interested in preserving and fostering the aims of the State Association of Texas Pioneers is invited to join from anywhere in Texas. Applications and membership information can be obtained at the contact information below.
The Pioneers' original chapter is located in San Antonio. Plans are underway to extend the opportunity to start chapters
